Mikey begins to brutally beat Kazutora; Takemichi realizes that the battle is unfurling just as Draken had described it, and that he has sadly failed to change the future. Kazutora, believing Baji has abandoned him, stabs him in the back before remembering Baji’s promise to him many years ago that he would always stand by him no matter what. Realizing that he has “destroyed the thing most important to him,” Kazutora accepts his fate. Baji then stands up and stabs himself, stating that he refuses to die by Kazutora’s hand. In his final moments, he tells Takemichi and Chifuyu that Kisaki is the enemy, and that Kisaki promised Mikey that he would release Pah-chin from jail if Mikey appointed him as Toman’s Third Division captain. Mikey continues attacking Kazutora, while Takemichi tries to stop him, but Mikey is too far gone in his rage to be reasoned with. Takemichi angrily asserts that Baji sacrificed himself because he wanted Mikey to forgive Kazutora.
